Are You Called to Serve?
Answer the Call: Become a Volunteer!
Ready to Serve? Volunteer With Us!
If you are called to serve your community, this is where you belong! Volunteer for the experience of a lifetime and learn the critical skills needed to become a certified Firefighter, Rescue Technician, and/or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). Or just help us with administrative tasks.
Your journey to helping others starts here!

Firefighter/ Rescue Technician
Firefighters control and extinguish fires and rescue people and property from dangerous situations. Rescue Technicians use specialized training and equipment to extricate and recover victims from complex and technical environments.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
An EMT provides immediate, basic pre-hospital medical care, assesses a patient's condition, stabilizes their injuries or illness, and transports them safely to a hospital or other medical facility.

Administrative Volunteer
Administrative volunteers handle non-emergency business operations like fundraising, finance, public relations, and marketing, ensuring the operational personnel have the resources they need to respond to emergencies.
Master Essential Life-Saving Skills
This is where your transformation begins. We provide the highest quality training for free, administered by the Maryland Fire Rescue Institute (MFRI), to give you the skills to save lives.
- Semester Schedule: Classes are offered in the spring and fall, meeting two evenings a week and one full day on the weekend.
- Accelerated Option: Ready to dive in? Intensive summer "crash" courses allow you to fast-track your training by attending daily classes.
Over 207 hours for EMT certification or 135 hours for Firefighter certification, you'll earn credentials that open doors and equip you for most emergencies. Be aware this training is comprehensive and requires committed attendance.
Gain Hands-On Experience
Becoming a volunteer means more than just taking a class; it means becoming a working member of our emergency team from day one. We ask for a commitment of at least 30 hours per month — and this time is packed with purpose:
- Ride Along Immediately: Even before your formal training is complete, you'll gain crucial insight by riding the ambulance or fire engine, seeing real-world calls in action.
- Grow Your Expertise: Participate in regular in-house training drills to perfect your skills alongside seasoned veterans.
- Continue the Legacy: Be a vital part of our success by attending company meetings and helping with firehouse-sponsored community events and fundraisers.
Forge Lifetime Friendships
Looking for more than the typical volunteer role? Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company brings together a dynamic mix of students, working professionals, and retirees, all unifying under the ultimate mission: public safety. By relying on each other in emergencies and training together every week, we don't just build a team—we build unbreakable trust and lifelong friendships that are stronger than fire.
Live-In Program
Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company offers a Live-In Program for qualified volunteers. Certified Maryland firefighters and/or EMTs can qualify for rent-free housing in a private, furnished room at the fire station, with access to shared kitchen and laundry facilities, bathrooms, TV and high-speed internet. In exchange for this benefit, live-in members gain invaluable experience. Prospective live-ins must first successfully complete the standard volunteer application process and be cleared to ride in Baltimore County.
