READY TO SERVE
SINCE 1897
Our Mission
To protect lives, property, and the environment while enhancing life safety through emergency medical services, fire & rescue response, and fire prevention.
Over 125 Years of Service
Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company is one of the oldest volunteer fire companies in Baltimore County and also one of the busiest. For over 125 years, we have been leaders in Maryland, developing innovative improvements to firefighting and emergency medical services.
We offer the only Confined Space Rescue Team in Baltimore County. Our highly-trained firefighters respond to a range of unique emergencies in dangerous spaces, such as collapsed buildings or trenches, subway tunnels, storage tanks, silos, and sewers, using specialized equipment to rescue trapped victims.
In 1930, our volunteers started one of the first volunteer ambulances in Baltimore County, purchasing a Packard ambulance equipped with first aid equipment and supplies. Today, our Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics respond to nearly 1,500 calls annually.

Company History
The Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company (PVFC) was formally established on February 4, 1897, by a group of community leaders in Pikesville, Maryland.

1898
Received the first piece of apparatus, a $500 Holloway ladder truck, and built a temporary truck house.

1921
The company moved into the fire station on Reisterstown Road, uniquely sharing the facility with Baltimore County's paid Engine Company #2 and the county police department.

1930
Initiated voluntary ambulance service, purchasing a Packard ambulance with county support for garage and fuel.

1963
Dedicated a new, separate fire station and community hall on Sudbrook Road, moving out of the shared facility.
The company also began employing a paid daytime firefighter to ensure staffing for ambulance service.

1976
The first paramedic unit was placed in service.
A. Danelle England became the first female active PVFC firefighter and paramedic, marking the entry of women into active firefighting duty at the company.

1986
Discontinued engine and air unit service to establish a dedicated Truck Company, pioneering the use of a 100' aerial ladder and Positive Pressure Ventilation (PPV) techniques in the county.

2003
Upgraded to a state-of-the-art 95-foot tower ladder (Tower 323) and added three new drive-thru bays to the station.
Ladies Auxiliary disbanded and members become Associate members of the fire company.

2005
In commemoration of the company's Centennial, the old Gould hand pump wagon, affectionately known as "Old 21," was completely refurbished by Swab Wagon Co.

2006
Confined Space Team responded to its first working Confined Space incident - rescuing two construction workers in Owings Mills.

2018
Our newly remodeled station is dedicated, including a new kitchen and dining area, dedicated living area on the second floor, new meeting room, and history museum.

2024
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) awards Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company a four-year SAFER grant to increase the recruitment and retention of volunteer firefighters.
