The Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company celebrated another year of service to the community at its 113th annual Company Banquet Saturday, February 20th, recognizing newly elected officers, top responders and the Fire and EMS providers of the year. This year marked only the second time in the company’s modern history that the banquet – which was originally scheduled for February 6 – was postponed due to inclement weather.

Captain Glenn Resnick, beginning his 14th term as the company’s chief officer, noted PVFC responded to 3,530 total fire and medical calls in 2009, an increase of almost 150 calls from the previous year. Company 32 responded on numerous working incidents – including 12 multi-alarm fire and 46 working rescues. The company’s specialized Confined Space Team was alerted for eight calls, five of which were working technical rescues. “This is remarkable considering all of the challenges we face in our everyday lives,” Captain Resnick said.

Other highlights for PVFC in the past year included Roger Powell being elected as president of the Maryland State Firemen’s Association, the sixth company member to hold the distinguished statewide position, and the company again receiving federal grant funding.

Longtime company member Kathleen Resnick was presented with the President’s Award, recognizing her service as a member of the Board of Directors, organizer of company functions such as the annual banquet, open house, picnic and holiday party, and playing a large role in the success of the Dancing in the Streets event.

Recognized as PVFC’s EMS Provider of the Year was Akiva Hamburger, who finished the year among the company’s Top 10 EMS responders and Top 5 supression responders. Akiva also became a CPR and AED instructor, an IV Technician and a driver on the ambulance, as well as becoming an operator on all three pieces of suppression equipment. He accomplished all of this while taking 17 college credits in pre-med and fire protection engineering.

Veteran PVFC member and past captain Sam Dansicker was honored with the company’s Firefighter of the Year Award for his work on various company projects (Dancing in the Streets, holiday party), serving as the defacto “used truck salesman” working on the Squad 322 project, assisting with maintenance on PVFC equipment and serving on many company committees.

PVFC’s overall Top Responder in 2009 was Dov Taber, who responded on 640 EMS and fire calls. The company’s top EMS responder was Hannah Kroll and top fire responder was Josh Schumer. The company’s elected executive and line officers and board members were installed at the banquet – see http://www.pvfd32.org/officers.php for a list of those members.
